5. French mayor arrested on charges he tried to blackmail opponent with gay sex
A French mayor has been arrested on charges of paying €50,000 to obtain a sex tape of a political opponent in an attempt to blackmail him.
Gaël Perdriau, 50, mayor of Saint-Etienne, allegedly used public funds to pay for videos of his former deputy, Gilles Artigues, 57, a married father with traditional Catholic social views, having sex with a prostitute in a Paris. hotel room in 2014. Read the full story.
