New York Red Bulls midfielder Dru Yearwood was suspended for an additional three games on Friday for his actions during a match against the Philadelphia Union on September 3.

As the final minutes of stoppage time wound down, Yearwood was ejected after violently kicking a ball into a girl’s face. The incident left another child, who may have also been hit, in the front row in tears.

The suspension will sideline Yearwood for the rest of the regular season, as he will miss games against the New England Revolution, New York City FC, Columbus Crew and Charlotte FC.

Yearwood immediately realized his mistake and rushed into the crowd in an attempt to apologize, only to be shunned by a fan near the girl who had been hit, with upset Red Bulls fans showing their disgust at the player.

Chants of “a**hole” were belted around the stadium.

The Red Bulls and Yearwood issued statements apologizing to the fan and sending their best wishes following the incident.
