Kaser Focus: Queen and Country

Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II of England. 96-year-old is a heckuva run. Just to give some context, the Magnavox Odyssey came out when it was 46 years old. She was already queen for 20 years. The entire industry that supports both my professional and personal life was still in its pre-teens when Queen Elizabeth became a grandmother. Only this schedule. . . it boggles the mind.

I’m not actually in the office today, but I felt it was worth coming in for a Kaser Focus. Since I’m here, I’ll tell you everything I’ve been up to during my time off. I played Saints Row a bit more, and I honestly don’t get a taste for it. The main supporting cast, if not the Boss himself, is nagging. I was unable to cover them because I felt like all they did from the beginning was complain. And the potential for satire of the modern millennial/zoomer experience is lost because the writing is authentic. It feels – and this might not seem harsh, but it’s a killjoy for a Saints Row game – a little basic.

In terms of news, PlayStation and Xbox seem to be at odds with the Call of Duty audience. After Phil Spencer said last week that Microsoft had done everything to keep the series available to PlayStation players, now Jim Ryan is reacting. He says Microsoft’s actual offer was “inadequate on many levels” and threw some shade, saying, “I feel the need to set the record straight because Phil Spencer brought it up in the public forum.” I’m curious to see how this is resolved, if only to hear a little more back and forth between these two.

For those of you who don’t know this, I’m a huge (if bitter) fan of Assassin’s Creed, so I’ll be around at the Ubisoft show tomorrow. I’ll be curious to see how much they show Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next title in the series. I’ll probably dive into Splatoon 3 a bit, and maybe even that new Disney Dreamlight Valley game if there’s time.
