Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks aired a shocking revelation tonight (September 12) as Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) finally found out who was responsible for his hit: his son Joel (Rory Douglas-Speed).
Earlier in the year, Warren was left for dead in a car crash when someone was revealed to be looking into his past. It was later revealed to viewers that it was Warren’s son, Joel, who was the driver of the car that ran him down.
In recent episodes, Sienna (Anna Passey) discovered Joel’s secret and threatened to expose him, but later agreed to keep the incident to herself. Joel, who had planned to reveal the truth in a letter to his father, was relieved.

However, tonight’s episodes saw Warren finally discover the truth as Norma (Glynis Barber) informs him that his attacker will be at church. Joel is praying in church, asking for God’s forgiveness when Warren enters the church. Joel puts on his hood to reveal his identity, but Warren confronts him.
“There he is, the guy who tried to kill me,” Warren says, unaware that he’s actually talking to his son. Warren then pulls out a gun and points it at his son, intending to kill his attacker. As Warren fires the gun, Joel turns and reveals himself to his dad. But it’s too late — he’s shot.
Joel falls to the floor — and that’s the end of the episode. In the next episode of the series, Joel is taken to the emergency room at the hospital, while Warren and Sienna do not immediately realize that Joel is Warren’s attacker. Instead, they believe it’s just a case of mistaken identity and that Warren is no closer to discovering the truth.
Sienna tells Warren that the approaching police sirens are Warren’s “karma.” Sienna says she’s done with Warren and tells him to either run away and live under a rock or “stay and face the music.” Later, Warren visits his unconscious son in the hospital.
“Joel, I didn’t know it was you. It wasn’t until I pulled the trigger that I knew I had made a mistake,” says Warren. “I don’t care if you hate me. I don’t care if you never speak to me again. I just want you to be okay.”
However, Joel regains consciousness and reveals the truth to his dad.

“What happened today was punishment. God’s punishment for what I did to you,” says Joel. “It was me, Dad. I was the one who ran you over.”
After digesting the truth, Warren says he did the right thing by firing the gun on Joel and laments that everyone he was close to “betrayed” him. A heartbroken Warren tells his son that he was the only person he ever trusted, then threatens to kill him. A police officer then walks in before anything else can happen, asking for information. Joel, however, covers for his dad and tells the officer that he “didn’t see anything.”
Later, Warren tells Norma that he now knows the truth and promises to get revenge on her for trying to get him to kill his son.
