Google is discontinuing its Pixelbook line of laptops

Google has canceled the Pixelbook laptop and shut down the development team. According to a report by The Verge (opens in new tab)Google made the decision to cut costs and consolidate its product portfolio, though it’s just as likely because the Pixelbook simply couldn’t stand out enough from the improved quality of Chromebooks from other manufacturers.

Well-built Chromebooks—which are ostensibly budget laptops—made it hard for Google to justify the Pixelbook’s premium price. At its heart it’s still a Chromebook, and that’s made it difficult for it to generate enough interest to compete with Macbooks like Microsoft’s Macbook or Surface.
