Star Trek: Discovery gave fans a first look at season 5, as well as some exciting plot details.
While we still don’t have a release date for the new episodes, a first image was revealed as part of Star Trek Day yesterday (September 8) showing Sonequa Martin-Green back in action as she drives a vehicle through a sandstorm.
A synopsis for season five has also been revealed, teasing a grand quest across the galaxy to find an ancient hidden power.

“Captain Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery uncover a mystery that sends them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries,” it reports (via Entertainment Weekly).
“But there are others on the hunt…dangerous enemies who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.”
Fans were also treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour courtesy of star Wilson Cruz – who plays Dr Hugh Culber – which you can watch above.

Cruise recently spoke of the show’s “infinite diversity,” praising it Star Trek The progressive nature of the franchise during an appearance at Dragon Con.
“Star Trek defined as infinite variety in infinite combinations,” he said (via Variety). “If that’s true and if that’s our goal, progress toward it needs to be shaped. That’s what science fiction does for us, it helps us imagine what it’s going to look like… and that’s inherently political.”
Martin-Green herself has also addressed his critics Discovery which they suggested has strayed too far from the original Star Trek.
